Brand-spanking new band, Sex Tourist makes its debut at Bang On's Clash Symbols #12. We catch up with the band before the big night.
Bang On Team: Tell us a little about your band.
Sex Tourist: We’re a band that had every intention of becoming a serious noise-rock/shoegaze project but got distracted by all the warm fuzzy feelings inside our bodies, which led to an odd hybrid of (at least what we consider to be) catchy pop-rock songs played with a noisy ethos.
BOT: Why did you start to make music?
ST: We guess it had something to do with having come from separate cities where we'd done a similar thing, but wanting to do it in Berlin. And also Craigslist - Craigslist helped.
BOT: What’s been your best moment as a band so far?
ST: All being together in the same room for the first time in eight months (this was two weeks ago).
BOT: Who are three bands everyone should listen to right now?
ST: The Spirit of the Beehive, Preoccupations, Wolf Parade.
BOT: How do you prepare for a gig?
ST: We've rehearsed more times in one week than we have in our existence as a band. Also, sometimes at least one of us turns up after having been out for more than 48 hours straight and attempts to play whatever instrument they think they should be playing.
BOT: What can people look forward to about your set?
ST: Tom bruising himself with a tambourine, loose harmonies, shared instruments, uncertainty.
BOT: Finish the sentence. If I wasn’t making music I would…
ST: Be on a beach right now, tickling an upside-down tortoise with an ostrich feather.
